I'm just wondering what everyone is doing for New Years Eve and day? Everything is so expensive if you want to go out. By the time we pay the sitter ($100 for new years eve is the going rate), pay for our tickets to a bar or pub (normally about $25/each but many are higher) and then our meal and drinks, well we're easily looking at a $300 evening. I just don't think it's worth it. So this year my hubby, kids and I are going to my parents house to have a huge seafood "feast" complete with tenderloin and stuff potatoes and then we'll play cards. Since they live about 40 minutes from us we'll just spend the night so we can both have a good time without the worries of driving. Should be a nice evening. What are your plans?

I agree, it's so expensive to go out for NYE these days. I had to work for most of the day unfortunately. But I did get a peek at the big ball since I work about 2 blocks from Times Square.
I ended up ringing in the New Year with a college friend who just moved up here to Brooklyn. It was very low key--she made some dinner and we toasted the new year over a glass of wine. Unfortunately, on my way home, I wasn't paying attention and got stuck on "parked" subway train and had to wait 20 minutes for it to turn around! Not so smart.
I hope everyone had a great time welcoming in 2006!

sounds like you guys had nice NYEs... we were supposed to go to a party with a bunch of our friends and their kids but my littlest one ended up with a fever of 102.7 that morning so we decided not to go out. we had fun ringing in the new year with the kids. they loved counting backward and screaming HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
